Great weekend at Fast Car Festival 2011 in Zandvoort, Holland
Having previously competed at both Zandvoort and Assen in the Milltek Audi R8, Audi TT-RS and Audi TTS it seemed like a good idea when promoter Brian Kifman of GT Events NL enquired whether we’d like to come across for a new event which incorporated a Superlap Competition.
Milltek Importer for the Netherlands, Xtreme Tuning arranged pit garage facilities which we shared with their VW Golf and Seat Leon Cupra entries, we took across the awesome Litchfield Imports prepared Nissan GT-R which is owned and driven by long term Milltek user (and abuser) Richard Marshall, this car is the test platform for the new Milltek 90mm (3.5-inch) system.
An uneventful journey across on the Saturday just proved what an excellent towing machine the diesel Range Rover Sport is, we arrived at Zandvoort around 5pm and the GT-R was hastily washed down before going straight into a photo session.
The Sunday competition day dawned overcast with the threat of rain, scrutineering started promptly at 7am and after a drivers’ briefing, we were all set to go. The first session of free practice was dramatically cut short as we’d forgotten to switch the car over to its low drive-by noise set up; some swift action in the garage got the car converted just as the session finished. The second free practice session was held in torrential rain, not the best conditions for the GT-R which was running what can best be described as track day tyres, excellent in dry and even damp conditions but poor when there’s any standing water around, we at least finished the session without incident but were unhappy to be 30 seconds behind the lead car, a Ginetta G50. The final session was mercifully dry and the Nissan started to produce competitive times , ending up recording the fastest speed down the straight at 145 mph and finishing 6th, just 6.7 seconds behind the winning time of the Ginetta G50.
At the end of the day, Brian asked if Richard would take Miss Superlap Charelle around the circuit for some hot laps, more experience of Zandvoort for our driver!
Another excellent uneventful Range Rover journey back to the UK concluded a great weekend, many thanks to Steef and Tamara from Xtreme, Brian from GT Events and Richard Marshall for making the weekend possible.
